Sturgis Day 14. Thank you Sturgis, Until the day we meet again...

I know it's rude to say this, but let me tell you a little bit about us. We came from a small island country called Japan. It takes a lot of time and a lot of money to cross the ocean and fly to Sturgis with 2 bikes. We are not rich. that's why I worked 365 days a year and spent 24 hours s day in the factory with bikes. Even if I tell anyone about this, they may not believe me, but Koh really did it. I think normal people take hobbies, make time with friends and family to refresh themselves, and teke a break. However, Koh has devoted all of his time to motorcycles. It has lasted for 24 years and I am sure it will continue. I don't know if Koh is way of life is correct, but this is the path he chose. John Harman left for Heaven halfway through his ambition. Koh learned a lot from his short and big life and engine.
Thanks to that, we won a lot of victories in Sturgis, but winning was not our goal. We wanted to convey our beliefs to you. And I wanted you to sympathize with our souls. We wanted you all to see our dear love SPEED STER and TRIBUTE HARMAN. It has come true. I would be happy if you could stay in your heart. Thank you.

私達はL.Aで少しの仕事をやり終えて、友人に挨拶を済ませ、日本へ戻ります。私達はこの4年間、業界の政治や社会的要因に振り回されること無く、自分達の信念を曲げることはしませんでした。そして、これが結果だと信じます。バート マンローがそうだったように、アメリカから遠くはなれた島国からバイクと共に海を越えることは容易なことではありません。Kohは、ほとんどのことを誰にも頼らず、自分自身の力で開拓し、全てをやり遂げました。それは今までの、どこの国へ行くのも同じでした。
他の誰かが魂を込めて制作したバイクに順位を付けるなんて、もしかしたら馬鹿げていることかもしれません。けれど、私達は順位にこだわっている訳ではありませんし、そんなものに執着しているつもりもありません。Kohは、ただ純粋に自分の創り出したものを、豊富な知識と、経験と、技術と、歴史を持った人々に出逢い、正しい評価を望みました。そして、その人たちの脳天に稲妻を落とし、心の中にずっと残るものを創り出したかった。その気持ちをどんな時も忘れずに信念を貫いてきました。そして、諦めなかった。ハーレーダビッドソンが生まれたアメリカで、ジョン ハーマンが短くも大きく生きたアメリカで、そのKohの想いが叶いました。Kohは気難しい性質で、時には酷く周りの人に神経質になったりもしますが、オートバイを愛する心は本物だと知っているから、本当に嬉しかった。34年間の中の13年もの時間、、雨の日も風の日も嵐の夜も朝も、一緒に働いてきてくれた伊達君と一緒に、この日を迎えられたことに感謝するとともに、協力してくださった全ての皆さんに感謝申し上げます。有り難うございました。また、元の生活に戻ります。

私達がスタージスに滞在する最終日に、マイケル リクター氏に撮影していただきました。











Koh and TRIBUTE HARMAN in the natural spotlight.

天然のスポットライトを浴びるKohとトリビュートハーマン。






Since Koh was young, Koh had wanted Michael to photograph the bikes he built. I think that's what all bike builders around the world wish for. That small but big dream has come true today. Michael is a very funny and kind person. And he was a more serious, hard-working, conviction photographer than we could have imagined.

湿度がないからカラッと気持ちの良い天気なんだけど、とにかく日差しが強いので暑い。コンテナの冷蔵庫に入らせてもらいながら撮影は続きます。マイケルとの最初の出逢いは、ドイツで開催された2016年のAMDワールドチャンピオンシップ。Kohはフリースタイルで優勝しましたが、そのときに初めてマイケルに撮影をしてもらいました。Kohは若い頃から、一度は自分の制作したバイクをマイケルに撮影してほしいな、と願っていました。その小さくて大きな夢が今日、本格的に叶いました。彼はとても面白くて親切な人です。そして、私達が想像するよりも、もっともっと真面目で仕事熱心で、信念を持って写真を撮る人でした。












I searched for several places under the too storong sunlight and moved. I put back even a amall stone, pull out a small seed, and wait for the sunlight. We spent hours and hours trying to get the perfect picture without compromising on the amsllest details.

強すぎる日差しの下、何箇所も場所を探して移動して、その場所が気に入らないとまた移動して、小さな石ころ一つでもどかして、小さな草も抜き、太陽の光を待つ。どのような些細なことにも妥協せず、完璧な写真を求めて何時間も撮影は続きました。





ねえ、Kohは何年かけてこのバイク創ったの？最近はね、長い時間をかけてバイクを制作する人たちが本当に少なくなったんだよ、とマイケルが言っていました。

Hey Koh, how many years did it take you to build this TRIBUTE HARMAN? There are very few bike builders these days who take a long time to create custom bikes. Michael said so.




When you're with Michael, wherever you go, you'll be greeted with "HI Michael!!" And you can take any place. Everyone in Sturgis knows him, loves him and treats him with a lot of respect and respect. "Everyone here knows me," Ibsaid laughing like a mischievous child. "You're an American legend." Then he looked a little embarrassed and said, "I've been here for 43 years without taking a break, taking pictures."

彼と一緒に行動してると、どこへ行っても、「ハーイ！マイケル！」 と声を掛けられます。そしてどんな場所も通リ抜けることが出来ます。スタージスにいる全ての人々が彼を知っていて、彼のことが大好きで、彼に沢山の尊敬と敬意を持って接します。「ここにいる皆が僕のことを知ってるでしょ？」 と、いたずらっ子のように笑うので、あなたはアメリカのレジェンドなんだね！と私が言うと、少し照れながら、「まさか！僕はただ43年間、ずっとここで写真を撮り続けてきただけだよ！」 と言いました。しびれさせてくれます（笑）




We now understand why he is an American legend. I was very happy to be able to see the amazing scenery and feel Michael's energy, beliefs, philosophy, and love for his work. I was humbled by Michael's passion for photography, and it was a day that made me respect and appreciate his work from the bottom of my heart.

私達は、なぜ彼がアメリカを代表するレジェンドなのかを理解しました。素晴らしい景色と、マイケルのエネルギーと、信念と、哲学と、仕事への愛を感じることが出来て、とても幸せでした。マイケルの写真にかける情熱に頭の下がる想いでしたし、心の奥底からの尊敬と感謝をする一日となりました。マイケルが、「ねえ、どうしてもこの二台を僕のコロラドのスタジオで撮影したいんだけど、いつ日本に帰るの？」 と聞いてくるので、え？コロラド？デンバー？いやいや無理だよ、遠すぎる！と言うと、「えー、ノンストップで走れば10時間で着くからさー、けどコロナで何年もスタジオ使ってないから、ちょっと掃除だけさせてね！」 と言うので、いや光栄だけど無理だって！今日の夕方にはここを出発してL.Aに向かうし。と言うと、「えー、飛行機のチケット少しずらせない？」　と食い下がらないので笑えた。とにかく、私は彼のことが前から大好きだったけれど、今日もっともっと大好きになりました。この日、撮影してもらったSPEED STERとTRIBUTE HARMANの写真は、二ヶ月に分けてサイクルソースマガジンの表紙になり、記事で特集されます。

Sturgis Day 11. King of Sturgis...

Koh has been selected as the 2023 King of Sturgis. What happened to us was so big and the stage was so big that everything felt like a dream that night.

Kohが2023年のキング オブ スタージスに選ばれました。アメリカのスーパースターが毎年ライブを行なうバッファローチップのステージに呼ばれて、もう写真には写しきれないほどの大きな場所で、両サイドの巨大スクリーンにはスピードスターとトリビュートハーマンが映し出されて、それはもう、本当に夢の中にいるような出来事でした。



When Koh is name was announced, everyone celebrated with loud cheers, applause, finger whistles, and the sound of the exhaust. On the way up to the stage, the people around me and the staff asked me to shake my hand, and they winked at me while making fists. I asked Koh afterwards that it was a wonderful time.

Kohの名前が発表されると、大きな歓声と拍手と指笛とマフラーの爆音で会場の皆さんが祝福してくれました。ステージに上がる途中で、周りの人々やスタッフの皆さんが握手を求めてきてくれたり、グーとグーをカチンっと合わせながらウインクをしてくれたり、それはそれは素晴らしい時間だったよ、と後からKohに聞きました。




Koh has come this far with his own goals, but he never imagined that something this big would happen. I haven't researched it, so I don't know the truth, but maybe Koh was the first Asian to win the award.

自分なりの目標を持って、ここまで来ましたが、まさか、ここまで大きな出来事が起こるなんて想像もしていなかったから、本当に驚きましたし、感謝の気持ちでいっぱいになり、目が回って気分が悪くなりました（笑）　いつもKohのカスタムバイクのシートを担当してくれるBill wall leatherのBillに、King of Sturgisに選ばれたよ！と報告したら、「え？まじで？外国人なのに？！」と驚いていました。驚き方が笑える！ 調べていないので本当のところは分かりませんが、もしかしたらアメリカ人以外で初めての快挙だったかもしれません。アジア人では、たぶん初めてだと思います。

Anyway, thank you, thank you everyone, thank you Sturgis, thank you,　Buffalo chip, thank you, thank you、Thank you very much.　

Sturgis Day 10. Shooters images...

In 2019, he found our SPEED STER and invited us to shoot with him. Koh puts his own philosophy and soul into build it. They were highly specialized and sometimes went too far ahead of the curve in terms of technology, so it was difficult for people to sympathize with them. The reason Koh took the bike he build and traveled around the world was partly to find his place. Koh believed that somewhere in the world there was someone who would understand what he was creating. In Japan, it was difficult to do so. Koh was always lonely in Japan. The people at Shooters Images took pictures of the SPEED STER at the angles that Koh wanted to show and the perfect angles. When Koh saw the photo, he was very moved and took great inspiration from the photo to complete the TRIBUTE HARMAN.

2019年に私達のスピードスターを見つけてくれて撮影に誘ってくれた人たちがいる。Kohは、他のバイクビルダーの人々と同じように、一台のカスタムバイクを完成させる為にKohなりの哲学と魂と技術を込めて制作する。しかし、それらは専門性が高く、技術面でも先を行き過ぎている部分があり（Koh本人はそんなふうに思ってはいないけれど、日本のエディターやライターからは、そう評価され続けてきた）、なかなか日本国内で共感されることは今の現在も難しい。一時期は、もっと創りたいけれど創り込みすぎると、どんどん理解されないんじゃないかと悩み、自分の持つ知識や技術よりも少しレベルを下げて分かりやすく部品を制作するような孤独に至ったこともあります。Kohが自分で制作したバイクを持ち込み、世界を周るのは、自分の居場所を探す旅でもあり、世界のどこかに、きっと自分の制作するものを理解してくれる人々がいると信じて自分の仕事を続けました。限られた人生の中で自分にどれだけのものが創りだせるんだろうか。Kohは真剣に仕事に打ち込み、それを諦めませんでした。シューターズ イメージズの人たちは、Kohが見せたいアングルや、スピードスターの見所である箇所を完璧に理解して撮影をしてくれました。その写真を見てKohは大変感動し、その写真の中からインスピレーションを多大に受け、トリビュートハーマンを完成させました。








Everyone here knows I'm a pine cone collector. One of my friend, who was gone during the shoot, picked up a bag full of pine cones. Hey,Izumi, this is all you need, so you gave me a present:) Everyone here was happy and grateful.

私が松ぼっくり収集家ということは、ここの皆んなは知っていて、撮影している間、あれ？どこに行ったんだろう？と思っていた友人のひとりがスーパーの袋いっぱいに松ぼっくりを拾い集めてきてくれて、「ねえ、こんだけあったら足りる？」 と私にプレゼントしてくれた。この炎天下の中、あなたずっと松ぼっくり拾ってたのーーー！？と皆んなが大笑いして、ここにいる皆んなが幸せに感謝した。








I'm really happy and honored to have them take pictures of the TRIBUTE HARMAN. this is a special place for us. There were sad things that happened over the 4 years that made it impossible for me to come here. I thought of him all the time as I strolled around the studio. I miss you. I dedicate this time to my friend in heaven.

こうしてまた、Kohが新たに制作したトリビュートハーマンを彼らに見てもらえたこと、撮影してもらえたことが本当に嬉しくて、光栄に思います。ここに来ることが叶わなかった4年間の間に、悲しい出来事もありました。スタジオの周りを散歩しながら彼のことをずっと考えて過ごしました。するとマイクが撮影から戻ってきて私に、いつものビールとチーズを持ってきてくれて、「ここは何にも変わってないよね」 と私が言うと、「そうだよ、何にも変わってない。ここはあの頃からずっと美しいままだよ」 と言いました。天国にいる友人に、この時間を捧げます。
